Today in the system of global governance of the XXI century, there is a wide variety that intervene or are part of the decision-making that take place on an international scale. From the Cold War until now, the role of state actors has lost some relevance in the face of the increase in non-state actors, such as NGOs. These have a more direct and active participation in the field of international negotiations and in decision-making on global governance within the framework of multilateral organizations par excellence such as the United Nations. In this sense and on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Association in Spain, we want to reflect on the importance of the role of civil society in the field of multilateralism and international relations with the organization of the international seminar “People-centered multilateralism: the role of civil society in the United Nations”. 

Hoy en día en el sistema de la gobernanza global del Siglo XXI, existe una amplia variedad que intervienen o forman parte de las tomas de decisiones que tienen lugar a escala internacional. Desde la Guerra Fría hasta ahora, el papel de los actores estatales ha perdido cierta relevancia frente al aumento de actores no estatales, como las ONG. Éstas tienen una participación más directa y activa en el ámbito de las negociaciones internacionales y en la toma de decisiones sobre la gobernanza mundial en el marco de los organismos multilaterales por excelencia como son Naciones Unidas. En este sentido y con ocasión del 60 aniversario de la Asociación por las Naciones Unidas en España, queremos reflexionar sobre la importancia del papel de la sociedad civil en el ámbito del multilateralismo y las relaciones internacionales con la organización del seminario internacional “El multilateralismo centrado en las personas: el papel de la sociedad civil en Naciones Unidas”.
