Ülejõe district is one of the oldest and architecturally diverse neighbourhoods in Tartu city. Unlike many other historical districts, Ülejõe does not have a community NGO with active members. Our aim is to have a day of simple communion with a chance to meet the many interesting people living in the area and also gauge the interest of residents in forming a more organized community. The importance of caring for our district and it’s people’s interests is high, because the area is being increasingly developed by both private and public investments and without organized representation the residents have fewer options to voice their opinions and concerns. The main partner in this project is the City Museum and it’s branch the Song Celebration Museum who will be hosting a number of activities and are interested in being the focal point for the growth of an organized community.
Currently there are 19 cafes, workshops or flea markets in various locations across the district.

Ülejõe linnaosa on üks vanimaid ja arhitektuuriliselt ja kultuuriliselt mitmekesisemaid linnaosasid Tartu linnas. Erinevalt teistest ajaloolistest linnaosadest puudub Ülejõel oma selts või MTÜ, millel oleks aktiivsed liikmed. Meie eesmärk on Ülejõe kohvikute päeva raames pakkuda lihtsat kogukonnarõõmu läbi toidu ja tutvuste, aga ka algatada asumiseltsi moodustamiseks huviliste leidmine. Asumiseltsi olulisus on aktuaalne, kuna Ülejõe ja Raadi piirkonda arendatakse järjest suuremal määral ning selleks, et kõigi kogukonna liikmete huvid ja arvamused saaksid tähelepanu on kasulik olla organiseeritud. Peamiseks koostööpartneriks on Ülejõe päevade korraldamisel Tartu Linnamuuseum ja selle filiaal Tartu Laulupeomuuseum. Laulupeomuuseumi aias toimub kohvikutepäeva raames ka ohtralt tegevusi ning nad on avaldanud huvi omada keskset rolli kohaliku seltsi algatamisel ja arendamisel. 
Hetkel on nimekirjas 19 kohvikut, tegevust või täikat erinevatel aadressidel läbi Ülejõe.
