The alternatives to the use of petroleum derivatives in mobility, usually focus on cars and at most on vans. It is obvious that there are other forms of mobility and, in many of them, Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) presents possibilities to improve environmental impact.

In marine transport, the fuel normally used is fuel oil, with the highest sulfur content, the cheapest. This causes pollution both in cabotage routes, and especially in the stay in ports where, in order to produce the necessary electricity for the ship, they normally keep the engines running using fuel oil.

The Port of Barcelona emits 7% of the total nitrogen oxides emitted in the city. El Port has developed ambitious action programs to modify this situation. Balearia also has a motor that works with LNG on its Abel Matutes ship.

Les alternatives a la utilització de derivats del petroli en la mobilitat, normalment es centren en els turismes i com a màxim en les furgonetes. És evident que existeixen altres formes de mobilitat i, en moltes d´elles, el Gas Natural Liquat (GNL) presenta possibilitats de millorar els impactes mediambientals.

En el transport marítim, el combustible normalment utilitzat és el fuel oil, amb el més alt contingut de sofre, el més barat. Això provoca contaminació tant en recorreguts de cabotatge, i de manera especial en l´estada als ports en què, per produir l´electricitat necessària per al vaixell, normalment mantenen en marxa els motors utilitzant el fuel oil.

El Port de Barcelona emet un 7% del total d'òxids de nitrògen emesos a la ciutat. El Port ha elaborat programes d'actuació ambiciosos per tal de modificar aquesta situació. També Balearia disposa en el seu vaixell Abel Matutes d'un motor que funciona amb GNL.
