The Romanian Department of Sustainable Development (DDD) within Romania’s Government organized on the 21st of September 2021 the international conference “The International Year of Fruits and Vegetables”, dedicated to the sustainable agriculture, healthy nutrition and biodiversity conservation.

The International Year of Fruits and Vegetables has the objective to promote the production of healthy fruits and vegetables, to generate a good practices exchange regarding the nutritional and health benefits of their consumption, to promote diversified, balanced and healthy diets and lifestyle and to reduce food waste, according to FAO.

Throughout this special event, the Department of Sustainable Development’s objective was to promote the sustainable agriculture for the fruits and vegetables production, their consumption among population, but also the biodiversity and the fight against food waste. 

Departamentul pentru Dezvoltare Durabilă din cadrul Guvernului României a organizat, in data de 21 septembrie 2021, conferința internațională ''Anul internaţional al fructelor şi legumelor'', dedicată agriculturii sustenabile și alimentației sănătoase, precum și conservării biodiversității.

Anul internaţional al fructelor şi legumelor are ca obiectiv să promoveze producția de legume și fructe sănătoase, să determine un schimb de bune practici în ceea ce priveşte beneficiile nutriţionale şi pentru sănătate ale consumului acestora, să promoveze diete şi stiluri de viaţă diversificate, echilibrate şi sănătoase şi să reducă risipa alimentară, potrivit Organizaţiei pentru Alimentaţie şi Agricultură a Naţiunilor Unite (FAO). Anul internaţional al fructelor şi legumelor 2021 se încadrează în ''Deceniul de Acţiune al ONU privind Nutriţia'' (2016-2025) şi în ''Deceniul ONU privind Agricultura Familială'' (2019-2028). Evenimentul este organizat în condițiile în care în România consumul de fructe și legume plasează țara noastră pe ultimele locuri în UE, conform statisticilor Eurostat.
