we are conducting biometric measurements in park in Kaštel Lukšić dominated by Laurus nobilis L. we investigated the extent to which abiotic factors influence the amount of carbon stored in the laurel tree. Aboveground tree biomass, dry mass, and carbon mass in dry mass were calculated. During the study period, laurel tree varied in growth and the mass of carbon stored in the tree because of the different intensity of photosynthesis due to the different amounts and distributions of precipitation and air temperatures. A laurel tree about 15 years old sequesters a small amount of CO2, 7.5 ‰ of the total average annual CO2 emissions from a car. In order to reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere and thus the consequences of global warming, when planting trees, in addition to species diversity, it is desirable to choose species from the softwood group (gymnosperms) because they grow faster, absorb more CO2 from the atmosphere, and store more carbon in the biomass.
Obavljali smo biometrijska mjerenja u parku u Kaštel Lukšiću u kojem prevladava lovor Laurus nobilis L. iz skupine tvrdog drveća. Istražili smo u kojoj će mjeri abiotički čimbenici utjecati na količinu pohranjenog ugljika u stablu lovora. Izračunata je nadzemna biomasa stabla, masa suhe tvari i masa ugljika u suhoj tvari. U istraživanom razdoblju, stablo lovora je imalo različit prirast a time i različitu masu pohranjenog ugljika u stablu što se povezuje s različitim intenzitetom fotosinteze kao posljedicom različitih količina oborine i temperatura zraka . Stablo lovora staro oko 15 godina prosječno veže malu količinu CO2 , 7,5‰ od ukupne prosječne godišnje emisije CO2 iz jednog automobila. Da bi se smanjila količina CO2 u atmosferi, pri sadnji drveća pored raznolikosti vrsta poželjno je birati vrste iz skupine mekog drveća (golosjemenjače) jer imaju brži rast, apsorbiraju veću količinu CO2 iz atmosfere i pohranjuju više ugljika.
