In cooperation with the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Bern and the Dance & Creative Wellness Foundation, we offer this creative movement – and dance project for senior citizens. In terms of content, the dance club is based on the schedule of the Tanzcompagnie Konzert Theater Bern: From October 2020, everything will revolve around the choreography of Estefania Miranda with La Divina Comedia by Dante Alighieri.
We – Clare Guss-West and Andrea Schärli and I – just registered the senior dance project #TanzclubSeniorstars at #esdw2020 within #sdg3 because #dance can decidedly improve #BrainHealth. In 2003 researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine investigated the effect of leisure activities on the risk of #dementia. The researchers looked at the effects of 11 different types of physical activity, including cycling, golf, swimming, and tennis, but found that only one of the activities studied – dance – lowered participants’ risk of dementia.
From Oct til Dec 2020 the project runs online as of #covid19: to keep seniors #active and to prevent #isolation. The project is linked to an ongoing performance at Konzert Theater Bern. In 2021 we will add the #intergenerational approach by focusing specifically on people directly and indirectly affected by #dementia and will be linked to a performance of the #ZurichBallet.
The project is a cooperation of University of Bern (Dance Science), Dance & Creative Wellness Foundation and Konzert Theater Bern.
