European Sustainable Development Week 2023 at the School of Health will be dedicated to understanding the carbon footprint and climate change and renewable energy sources. During this week, the school will organize a series of interactive activities with the aim of educating students about environmental challenges and encouraging them to act in order to preserve the environment. Lectures and workshops for students and an exhibition for the general public will be organized and prepared by teachers from the Health School (Marija Jurišić Šarlija, Mirjana Gaćina Bilin and Ana Paradžik Prce) and a teacher from the Vocational and Technical School (Manuelom Brnčić Dadić).

First day: Getting to know the Carbon Footprint

On the first day, students will participate in an interactive presentation (hybrid – live/online) about the carbon footprint. The teacher/expert will take them through the basic concepts of greenhouse gas emissions, their impact on climate change, and how individuals and communities can reduce their footprint. Through real examples, students will understand how their everyday decisions affect the environment.

Second day: Workshop “Our carbon footprint and mathematics”

Students will participate in a workshop (student sheet/pair work) that connects the topic of carbon footprint with mathematical knowledge. Through basic arithmetic operations and linear equations, students will quantitatively understand the concepts of greenhouse gas emissions. This activity allows them to understand how many specific activities contribute to their footprint and how simple changes can have a big impact.

Third day: “Renewable energy sources”

The lecture on renewable energy sources will provide students with an insight into the various methods and technologies used to obtain energy from rapidly renewable natural resources. These energy sources, such as solar heat, wind, water and geothermal heat, play a key role in global efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reduce negative environmental impacts.

Fourth day: “Sea level rise” workshop

In this workshop (student handout/pair work or group work), students will explore the growing effects of climate change, specifically sea level rise. Using satellite images, students will analyze real data on sea level rise. Through this hands-on experience, students will better understand the impact of climate change on natural environments and human communities. Critical thinking of this topic will encourage them to think about the long-term consequences and the necessity of adaptation.

Task for volunteers: Research and creative exhibition

Before the main activities, the volunteers will be in charge of researching climate changes in Croatia and their impact on the world level, they will also research renewable types of energy. Based on their knowledge, they will create digital posters or comics that will show their knowledge in a creative and educational way. These visual materials will be displayed in the atrium of the school during the Sustainable Development Week in order to raise the awareness of students and the general public about the importance of environmental protection.

During the whole week, all the activities that have been carried out will be documented. At the end, a digital book https://bit.ly/MalimKoracima will be created that will chronologically show all the steps, insights and achievements of this week dedicated to sustainable development. This book will serve as inspiration for future generations of students and as a reminder of their contribution to the protection of the planet. Europski tjedan održivog razvoja 2023. u Zdravstvenoj školi bit će posvećen razumijevanju ugljičnog otiska i klimatskih promjena te obnovljivim izvorima energije. Tijekom ovog tjedna, škola će organizirati niz interaktivnih aktivnosti s ciljem educiranja učenika o ekološkim izazovima i poticanja na djelovanje u svrhu očuvanja okoliša. Predavanja i radionice za učenike te izložbu za širu javnost će organizirati i pripremiti nastavnice iz Zdravstvene škole ( Marija Jurišić Šarlija, Mirjana Gaćina Bilin i Ana Paradžik Prce) i nastavnica iz Obrtno tehničke škole (Manuelom Brnčić Dadić).

Prvi dan: Upoznavanje s ugljičnim otiskom

Na prvom danu, učenici će sudjelovati u interaktivnom izlaganju (hibridno – uživo/online) o ugljičnom otisku. Nastavnik/stručnjak će ih provesti kroz osnovne koncepte emisija stakleničkih plinova, njihovog utjecaja na klimatske promjene te načina kako pojedinci i zajednice mogu smanjiti svoj otisak. Kroz stvarne primjere, učenici će razumjeti kako njihove svakodnevne odluke utječu na okoliš.

Drugi dan: Radionica "Naš ugljični otisak i matematika"

Učenici će se uključiti u radionicu (listić za učenike/ rad u paru) koja povezuje temu ugljičnog otiska s matematičkim znanjem. Kroz osnovne računske operacije i linearne jednadžbe, učenici će kvantitativno razumjeti koncepte emisija stakleničkih plinova. Ova aktivnost omogućava im da shvate koliko konkretnih aktivnosti pridonosi njihovom otisku i kako jednostavne promjene mogu imati velik utjecaj.

Treći dan: "Obnovljivi izvori energije“

Predavanje o obnovljivim izvorima energije pružit će učenicima uvid u raznovrsne metode i tehnologije koje se koriste za dobivanje energije iz prirodnih resursa koji se brzo obnavljaju. Ovi izvori energije, kao što su sunčeva toplina, vjetar, voda i geotermalna toplina, igraju ključnu ulogu u globalnim naporima za smanjenje ovisnosti o fosilnim gorivima i smanjenje negativnih posljedica na životnu sredinu.

Četvrti dan: Radionica "Podizanje razine mora"

U ovoj radionici (listić za učenike/rad u paru ili grupni rad), učenici će istraživati rastuće posljedice klimatskih promjena, posebno podizanje razine mora. Upotrebom satelitskih snimaka, učenici će analizirati stvarne podatke o porastu razine mora. Kroz ovo praktično iskustvo, učenici će bolje razumjeti utjecaj klimatskih promjena na prirodna okruženja i ljudske zajednice. Kritičko razmišljanje ove teme potaknut će ih da razmišljaju o dugoročnim posljedicama i nužnosti prilagodbe.

Zadatak volonterima: Istraživanje i kreativna izložba

Prije glavnih aktivnosti, volonteri će biti zaduženi za istraživanje klimatskih promjena u Hrvatskoj i njihov utjecaj na svjetsku razinu, istražiti će i obnovljive vrste energije. Na temelju svojih spoznaja, izradit će digitalne plakate ili stripove koji će prikazivati njihova saznanja na kreativan i edukativan način. Ovi vizualni materijali bit će izloženi u atriju škole kroz Tjedan održivog razvoja kako bi se podigla svijest učenika i šire javnosti o važnosti očuvanja okoliša.

Digitalna knjiga o Tjednu održivog razvoja u školi

Tijekom cijelog tjedna, dokumentirat će se sve aktivnosti koje su provedene. Na kraju će biti izrađena digitalna knjiga https://bit.ly/MalimKoracima koja će kronološki prikazivati sve korake, spoznaje i dosege ovog tjedna posvećenog održivom razvoju. Ova knjiga će služiti kao inspiracija za buduće generacije učenika i kao podsjetnik na njihov doprinos zaštiti planeta. Ovaj sveobuhvatni tjedan aktivnosti ne samo da će obogatiti znanje učenika o klimatskim promjenama, već će ih potaknuti da postanu aktivni sudionici u borbi za održivu budućnost.
