Most people have a pair of jeans but are not aware of the fact that the production of denim involves large amounts of chemicals and water, and that decent working conditions in production factories are not guaranteed. Maastricht School of Management (MSM) organizes a lecture day for its students and staff titled “The Sustainable Future of Denim”. The day starts with the movie The True Cost showing the ‘dark’ side of the fast fashion industry, followed by two guest lectures: Nudie Jeans and the Alliance for Responsible Denim. Nudie Jeans, a Swedish frontrunner company in sustainable denim, will highlight its efforts to increase its social impacts and reduce its environmental impacts. The Alliance for Responsible Denim, an international group of more than 50 denim brands, mills and suppliers that work together to make denim production cleaner and smarter, will share insights on the challenges and opportunities of collaboration for sustainability among potential competitors. 

De meeste mensen weten niet dat voor de productie van jeans heel veel chemicaliën en water nodig zijn, en dat fatsoenlijke arbeidsomstandigheden in de fabrieken niet gegarandeerd zijn. Maastricht School of Management (MSM) organiseert een dag met lezingen voor haar studenten en personeel met als thema "The Sustainable Future of Denim". De dag start met de film The True Cost waarin de donkere kant van de mode industrie getoond wordt. Daarna zullen er twee gastcolleges volgen: Nudie Jeans en de Alliance for Responsible Denim. Nudie Jeans,  een Zweeds bedrijf en voorloper op het gebied van verantwoorde jeans, laat zien hoe zij de sociale impact verbeteren en de impact op het milieu verminderen. De Alliance for Responsible Denim, een internationale groep van meer dan 50 merken, fabrieken en leveranciers die samenwerken voor een schonere en slimmere jeansproductie, zal inzicht geven in de uitdagingen en kansen voor samenwerking tussen mogelijke concurrenten op het gebied van sustainability.
