Ecotourism is able to contribute to biodiversity and to ensure the ecosystem function in Latvia through a complicated process of fulfilment of the established criteria for a valid ecotourism. The tourism flow in protected nature territories should be monitored, and the appropriate environmental management, education and a code of conduct need to be introduced. Ecotourism will serve for reducing the social and economic pressures on biodiversity and will promote responsible actions in support of environmentally friendly technologies and approaches. The areas selected for this study are the Natura 2000 territories that have undertaken the development of ecotourism facilities.

Eriks LeitisLekcijas mērķis:sniegt studentiem ieskatu ekotūrismā, kas tiek uzskatīts par vienu no videi visdraudzīgākajiem industrijas piemēriem;norādīt uz ekotūrisma teoriju un praksi, normatīvo aktu un politikas plānošanas dokumentu ietvaru, tūrisma radīto ietekmi uz vidi, kā arī metodēm tās mazināšanai, atraktīvu un konkurentspējīgu ceļojumu mērķu izstrādi un popularizēšanu;diskutēt par ekotūrisma definīciju, resursiem – īpaši aizsargājamām dabas teritorijām (Natura 2000), kultūras mantojumu (kultūrainava, kultūras pieminekļi, nemateriālais mantojums), eko-tehnoloģiju un videi draudzīgo pieeju (energoefektivitāte, emisiju samazināšana transporta, naktsmītņu, ēdināšanas, pakalpojumos, bioloģisko produktu aprite, ekociemati un ekobūvniecība, informācija) integrēšanu ekotūrisma uzņēmējdarbībā.
