‘Furthest Behind First# Budget 2023 campaign

Coalition 2030 has launched a campaign to encourage policy-makers in Ireland to, in Budget 2023, act in line with the SDG principle to reach the furthest behind first so that no one is left behind.

To reach the ‘furthest behind first’ means making policy that focuses attention on those in our communities who have the greatest need for support in making ends meet, avoiding or getting out of poverty, being healthy, and having decent work, both in Ireland and abroad.

This campaign is a coordinated social media campaign directed at the policy-makers who will determine how to deploy national financial resources in the upcoming Budget, due for announcement on September 27th.

Coalition 2030 wants Budget 2023 to be aligned with the core principle of Agenda 2030 to reach the furthest behind first. In practice this means doing away with one-size-fits-all policies in favour of approaches that support those who need it the most. For example, older people, younger people, renters, Travellers, Roma people, forcibly displaced persons, those with disabilities, women and carers.
