Soya is a seed that is used for the nutrition of many farm animals (chicken, pork, beef). As the world meat consumption is constantly increasing, the need for agricultural land dedicated to soybeans is going up. Ecosystems are being destroyed, particularly in Brazil, the Cerrado and the Amazon.
This deforestation has multiple impacts both on biodiversity and on the indigenous peoples of these regions. It causes the destruction of ecosystems, primal forests and the deprivation of natural resources for indigenous peoples.
Thus, if we do not want the Amazon to go up in smoke, we must make the actors responsible for this disaster.
This is where the Earthworm Foundation acts in. Their objective is to accompany agro-industrials in changing their practices in order to limit deforestation and the conversion of ecosystems.
The conference will allow you to understand how and what project is currently being implemented by Earthworm to improve the soy supply chain in Brazil. Also we ourselves can make an effort to minimize our forest footprint related to our consumption, which contributes to deforestation in the Amazon.
Le soja est une graine permettant la nutrition de nombreux animaux d’élevages (poulet, porc, boeuf). La consommation mondiale de viande ne cesse d’augmenter et entraîne un besoin de surface agricole dédié au soja. Ainsi, des écosystèmes sont détruits au Brésil (Cerrado, Amazonie).
Cette déforestation a de multiple impacts tant sur la biodiversité que sur les peuples autochtones de ces régions. Cela provoque la destruction d’écosystèmes, de forêt primaire et la privation de ressources naturelles pour les peuples autochtones.
Alors, si l’on ne veut pas que l’Amazonie parte totalement en fumée il faut responsabiliser les acteurs à l’origine de ce désastre.
C’est auprès des agro-industriels que Earthworm Fondation agit. L’objectif étant de les accompagner à un changement de pratiques afin de limiter la déforestation, la conversion d’écosystèmes.
La conférence vous permettra de comprendre comment et quel projet est mis en place actuellement par Earthworm afin d’améliorer la chaîne d’approvisionnement du soja au Brésil. Également chacun pourra définir son empreinte forêt liée à sa consommation, qui contribue à la déforestation en Amazonie.
