Central Europe Food Waste Conference 2018

The conference will be a place to engage with, discuss and recognise our shared responsibility on tackling food waste. It brings together representatives from Poland, Czech Republic,Hungary and Slovaki

Around 88 million tonnes* of food are wasted annually in the EU, with associated costs estimated at €143 billion. With this in mind, in 2016 Tesco decided to regularly invite experts and stakeholders from across Europe to focus them around one goal – reducing food waste. This year’s conference will bring together specialists from government, NGOs, business and media, providing a platform to go through the whole supply chain, from farm to fork, to tackle food waste – in cooperation and partnership.

Central European Food Waste Conference 2018 is organised by Tesco.

At Tesco we think it’s simply not right that good food goes to waste. That is why we’ve made a global commitment to reduce food waste from farm to fork. In Central Europe we are already minimising food waste in our own operations – by donating surplus food from our stores and distribution centres to local food banks and charity organisations. We are the only CE retailer to publish its own food waste data. Only 1.2% of food at Tesco in CE is wasted. But we want to do more – we want to help reduce food waste, not just at Tesco, but also on farms, in factories, and at home.
