The European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW) represents a great opportunity to make visible and share events, activities and projects organized by public administrations and civil society, that promote and implement sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda in the European countries.

In Italy, it also represents a chance to show results and initiatives related to the implementation of the National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS), approved in 2017, and of the regional and local strategies. It also offers a unique platform that gives voice and visibility to stakeholders from civil society committed in the environmental, economic and social challenges for sustainable development, starting from the actors involved in the National Sustainable Development Forum and in the participation mechanisms implemented at national, regional and local level.

Registrations are open to all kind of participants and initiatives (conference, workshop, meeting, exhibition, projects, visit, etc.).

After the success of the previous editions, the annual appointment with the Sustainable Development Festival returned from 8 to 24 May 2023 all over Italy, online and abroad. The Festival
once again took place in the spring, as it did before the pandemic.

The Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS), which brings together over 320 organizations from the economic and social world, organizes the Festival together with its member
organizations and with the support of Partners and Tutors, over a span of 17 days, as many as the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda. Every year, the Festival raises awareness of very large sections of the population on the issues of sustainability (economic, social and environmental) and the 2030 Agenda. With the involvement of hundreds of organizations throughout Italy, the network of Italian embassies and cultural institutes abroad, the active role played by the universities and the collaboration of the territories, the event reaches millions of people, confirming itself as a unique experience on the international scene.

In 2023, the main events organized by ASviS and its Working Groups took place in various cities throughout Italy, each of which hosted a stage of the Festival, with events on many themes, thanks to a partnership with the cities and universities. The calendar included stops in Bologna, Milan, Naples, Rome and Turin.

The Festival as a whole achieved great results: with more than 980 events organized online and in-person, throughout Italy and the world, it was confirmed as the largest awareness-raising event to spread the culture of sustainability and knowledge of the UN 2030 Agenda. Live streaming of the Alliance’s events reached 15 million people and had 1.9 million views thanks in part to collaboration with media partners. The event’s hashtags #Festivaldellosvilupposostenibile and #accendiamoilfuturo had 121 million impressions, and the Festival’s campaign spot reached more than 48.4 million contacts on Rai, both on TV and radio networks.
